HVAC Systems Flow Analysis using Converge

A 12 week course on simulating internal flows for HVAC applications. The tool that will be used for demonstration and practice is Converge CFD which is prominent in the industry.


This course covers the application of Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) theory on internal flows and especially focuses on simulating HVAC applications like;  heat exchangers, hot aisle, cold aisle for data centre, superchargers, and turbochargers. In this course, students will be introduced to CONVERGE STUDIO in detail. These are the other software that a student will work on during the duration of the course. CYGWIN/CMD: Command-line window to run the simulation PARAVIEW: Post-Processing software (to post-process the results) It’s important to understand how fluid flows through these applications and where the fluid is separating, and where the recirculation zone is generated. Students will also study how the shape of the blades and shape of outlet runners affect the results and they will also plot performance curves for all applications. Converge has an added advantage of automated meshing that helps save time. At the end of this course, you will be able to set up any internal flow problem, clean up any complicated geometry, and model Turbulence. You will also learn to set up the case for multi-phase, CHT. Moreover, you will learn the theory behind the concepts of Turbulence (RANS), Cavitation, Interfaces, and Regions.
